What Do We Mean by Gentle Technology? A Relational Lens within Technology Ethics
This paper introduces gentle technology as a relational lens within technology ethics. It examines how technological systems exercise power during error, uncertainty, vulnerability, refusal and conflict, and proposes five dimensions for ethical evaluation: legibility, proportionality, recoverability, respect for refusal and relational attentiveness.
